to-let

From the 6 Films to Keep You Awake Spanish horror anthology, comes this semi terror filled, mostly frustrating movie. To Let, a story about a couple looking to rent an apartment when they discover that they can check in, but To Let 0they can never leave. I had high hopes coming into this film due to the fact that Jaume Balagueró of [REC] fame wrote and directed it. But sadly found that he used classic frustrating bumbling characters with no common sense to add drama and extended storyline. I find this horror movie 101 typical bullshit to be such a fucking let down. I don’t want to give too much away in case you want to check it out for yourself, but there are way too many open opportunities for the characters to act that are missed.

The music was on but nothing to remember…The first song in the movie sounds like a Spanish version of the band Q Lazarus, known for their classic hit “Goodbye Horses” that was used in the “tucky” scene in Silence of the Lambs. The rest was a simple horror score that went along with the highs and lows of the film.

The cinematography was kind of annoying during the whole movie. Some of the to-let-1shots were from POV of the characters but the narrow lens made for absolutely no peripheral vision. This was a poor trick to make the watcher claustrophobic. Also, any time there was a scene of suspense, the camera got really shaky, almost like the camera man went into epileptic shock…got a little annoying as it was dragged out in some parts.

The acting wasn’t bad at all. I have to blame all the dumb choices that the characters made on the writers and director. Despite a handful of scenes that were a little over done, everyone was very convincing.

The effects were minimal, but very effective. Any type of gore and makeup was well done.
